Last night trainers, Richard and Angie had a shock up their sleeves for their training teams which was all a bit much for one of the Pink ladies. It was also Challenge night which brought up a surprising result.

Conspiring

Angie and Richard decided to meet up and have a pre-challenge chat about their teams. Angie asked Richard how it was going and he said,
‘My group do my head in to be honest. In my team, yeah the Browns are the heavy hitters, they lose loads of weight. My issue is with the Pink team. Sometimes they’re there and I’m having to push them hard just for them to wake up and breathe unaided!’

He went on to say that they were lovely girls but they had no fire in them. Angie said,

‘My team do my head in too. It’s tough!’

She said she felt that Jennifer wasn’t working hard enough and was eating too much and holding Sadie back. Miriam is on her own now because they’d lost Eunice. Miriam was feeling very vulnerable but just getting better and better all the time. But she did feel that Dave and Jamie weren’t fulfilling their potential because Jamie basically has a different injury every day. She said,

‘I don’t know what to do anymore. To be honest Rich, I don’t even know if, sounds really bad, I don’t know if I buy it anymore,’

The chat showed that both of them are having issues with their teams so they decided to swap for the day and train each other’s teams.Would their teams appreciate the change or would they be petrified – especially faced with taskmaster, Angie!

All Change

Angie’s team were in the gym warming up and in walked Richard. Sadie said,

‘When Richard walked into the room, we were all quite happy because we associate him with all this happy Zen feeling basically,’

Richard said hi to the team and then asked,

‘Angie needed a break and I needed a change so you guys have me. Is that a problem?’

He went on,

‘My training group has six people and lost 45lbs last week. Your eight lost 37lbs. Are you guys aware of that? Let’s get some weight off for this week’s weigh in. I want you guys to put some pressure on my guys. What you guys are going to have with me for the next session is ‘Armageddon’ as I like to call it. It’s a circuit session. It’s non-stop cardio-vascular so we’re working your cardio burning fat. It’s resistance so we’re going to build muscle and it’s safe. I’m relentless in this. Can we do this?

the team replied,

‘Yes!’

‘No, no, louder than that. Can we do this?’ Richard shouted.

‘YES!’ the team shouted back.

Sadie said,

‘I quite like Richard’s bedside manner if you have it. I like his whole Zen spin and its positive spin,’

Richard said,

‘If you’re not missing Angie, you will be! I promise you that,’

Sadie said,

‘I think we kind of underestimated him a little bit because we see Angie as the hard trainer and him as a soft trainer!’

Boy did he work them hard and fast. He did get through to Jennifer. She was on the treadmill and he was really motivating her. He asked her could she run yet. She said no. He told her to look down and she realised she was running!

Richard said he was actually quite impressed with the group and that he had enjoyed the break from training his group. The team enjoyed the session with Richard but, surprisingly said they would rather stick with Angie!

Petrified!

Angie walked into the other team’s session and their faces were a picture! She said,

‘Hello. Scared to see me?’

They all replied yes with lots of nervous giggling in the background! Michaela said,

‘When Angie came in I was just absolutely petrified. I think that first session we ever had with her will haunt me forever and I just thought there is no way I’d be able to cope with Angie,’

Mark said,

‘Myself and Kevin had a private session with Angie last week so we’ve experienced her wrath and we know what to expect,’ he told the rest of the group that all they had to do was give 100% to make her happy. She agreed and said that was all she wanted.

She worked the Pink ladies first and she was shocked with them. She said she felt like they had given up. Michaela straight away started saying she couldn’t do it but, Angie told her that she had to push to get decent numbers on the scales.

Angie showed them an exercise she wanted them to do but, by the time they were ready to start it, Michaela had forgotten how to do it! Michaela kept saying that she couldn’t do it and that she wasn’t up for it but, Angie wouldn’t let her give in. She told her,

‘You’ve got to find that place inside that says, yes I can do it and fight for it. Michaela don’t give up on yourself. Don’t say you can’t otherwise you’ll be doing it for the rest of your life!’

Michaela said she couldn’t even focus on what Angie had just said and Angie said that she would just show her again until she got it. Michaela said that she felt like she was dragging everyone down and Angie replied,

‘You’re not. I’ve just got to know that you need to give it a try, that you want to try. That’s all you’ve got to do,’

After the session Michaela said,

‘To be fair to Angie, as much as I was really scared and petrified, she was fantastic. I’ve got to give her that. I mean, she’s here for one reason and she has got a heart and, you know, she was trying to show me what to do and I thought, I’m still not getting this. So I think I was just too nervous,’

Angie took the Greens next. Katey looked horrified. Angie said,

‘Okay Katey, don’t look so scared. I think, have I got like a monster’s head on me or something?’

She was pleasantly surprised with the Green team. She said that Katey was brilliant and that Richard had done a good job of turning her round.

The team made it out the other side so, Angie may not be that bad after all!

The Challenge

Michaela said that on the way to the challenge they were all saying that they wanted someone other than the Browns to win this time. When they walked into the hall it was all laid out like a school PE lesson and Miriam said,

‘It did feel like I was going back to school and it was like, the pit of my stomach just felt dreadful!’

Kate Garraway, resplendent in her pink velour tracksuit, told them that the challenge was called Back to School. She said,

‘Some of you may have fond memories of school PE lessons, all those purple gym knickers and plimsolls. Some of you may not so much but, either way, we thought we’d have some good old fashioned circuit training so it’s all about skipping ropes, it’s all about netballs, it’s all about benches and boxes,’

Judging from the faces of the contestants, not one of them had fond memories of PE lessons at school, purple gym knickers notwithstanding!

The idea was that the two people with the fastest times would go into the final but no one would know their times until they had all done the circuit. Dave said,

‘Once we knew what the challenge was I was quietly confident I’d get round in one of the best times,’

The prize this time was a choice between immunity or £1000 cash. Kevin said,

‘Why couldn’t it have been cash last week? You know because we felt really good on our numbers last week!’

Sadie said,

‘I think you have more integrity if you go for immunity. Then you’re safe, you’ve got nothing to worry about. But £1000 is tempting when you’ve got no money in the bank!’

The circuit was:

  • Touch five football cones on the floor
  • Walk along a narrow balance bench and over a horse
  • 5 jumps on a trampoline
  • Shoot one netball goal
  • Bunny hop the length of a huge inflatable
  • 15 skipping repetitions
  • Then balance a tennis ball on a badminton racket while walking along a bench over a low horse and along another bench to the finish line. If they dropped the ball at this point they would have to start this part again.

The first team was the Yellows. They seemed to not realise it was a race and were really taking their time. Sadie got herself into the lead and managed to stay there. Jennifer couldn’t seem to shoot the netball goal and her skipping was a disaster!

Dave and Jamie were up next. Dave said he was just going to go hell for leather and Jamie really wanted to beat his dad. Dave got himself ahead quite early and had a big lead until he got to the skipping. Jamie said,

‘When the whistle blew I suddenly saw a grey blur down the right hand side and my dad had already got in front of me!’

Dave said,

‘The only part I had trouble with was the skipping. I don’t think I’m designed for skipping!’

He went on, laughing,

‘I crossed the line just before Jamie. Well, I think it was about a minute and a half before Jamie!’

The Challenge Kings were up next. Would they win again? Everyone was booing them when they got up – half in jest and half not. Mark said,

‘I started quite well but then there was the big inflatable that you had to bunny hop on. I tried to bunny hop and just fell off! I thought I was going to break my neck!’

Kevin said,

‘Mark was bouncing up and down so hard I was getting the shock wave and it was pushing me from side to side. It was just impossible to keep up. Skipping? Forget about it. Never done, never want to do it again!’

Mark crossed the line first.

The Greens had their go next. Dave said that he was quite impressed with Katey today. He said that she pushed herself and went all out to win it. Katey was winning all the way round til she got to the bunny hop – she just didn’t have the technique and her mum overtook her. Carol made it over the line first with nearly a minute to spare.

Lone Soldier

Poor old Miriam was next – all on her own. Mark said that he really wanted her to win because he felt like it was her only chance to stay in the house. The weigh in was going to be really tough for her if she had to get the percentage of two people.

Miriam said that she thought it was quite hard because she wasn’t racing against anyone but, she flew round the course. Nothing proved to be a problem for her and, when she got to the skipping, everyone else just looked on in awe as she whizzed through the 15 reps.

The Pink ladies were last but not least. Maria was really worried about looking stupid but not so with Michaela. When she was doing her jumps on the trampoline she added in a star jump. She said,

‘It just came out. I didn’t plan it! That’s the childish bit in me!’

Michaela was doing really well but, just at the last minute she dropped the ball in the bat and ball section and had to start it again! Maria managed to get past her and to the finish line.

Lap Times

The lap times were:

Jennifer - 8 mins 55 secs
Sadie – 4 mins 55 secs
Jamie – 4 mins
Katey – 3 mins 48 secs
Kevin – 3 mins 1 sec
Mark – 2 mins 51 secs
Carol – 2 mins 44 secs
Michaela – 2 mins 21 secs
Dave – 2 mins 15 secs

Leaving Maria and Miriam to come in at the top and be in the final. Finally! A challenge the Brown team couldn’t win!

Miriam got off to a good start with a little bit of a lead but Maria caught up with her at the trampoline. Maria got the netball in the goal first time and left Miriam behind til she got to the skipping so it was down to the bat and ball section. Maria managed to edge slightly ahead and got over the finish line first. The Pink ladies had won a challenge! Poor old Miriam had come second for the third week running. Maria said,

‘I just couldn’t believe that I did win. This is the first time I’ve won anything in my life!’

School Challenge Trophy

Kate Garraway presented the Pink ladies with the School Challenge Shield and asked them what their decision would be regarding the prize. Immunity or the cash? Michaela said,

‘I do like the thought of staying another week,’

Maria, feeling Michaela’s forehead said,

‘Do ya?’

Michaela replied,

‘I can’t believe I’m saying that!’

They chose immunity and live to fight another week!
