The 2nd elimination day in the Biggest Loser house certainly didn’t disappoint when it came to controversy and excitement! One of the contestants decided they wanted to go home, one had to be given oxygen and two of the contestants squirmed as they were centre of attention with the others.
Decisions, Decisions
The contestants above the dreaded Yellow Line gathered around the kitchen table to discuss the two couples that were up for elimination – Rick and Michelle and Sadie and Jennifer.
Jennifer’s hard work last week was mentioned on more than one occasion as was Michelle’s dogged determination during the challenge.
None of the contestants enjoy having to make the decision as to who they want to send home but, at least this week it wasn’t possible to have a tied vote!
Elimination
Both couples up for elimination were obviously feeling the strain. Sadie said that as everyone walked into the elimination room her stomach flipped. She said that she couldn’t have asked any more of her mum even though she had only lost 1lb. Jennifer said,
‘I’ve done all that I can and what Angie’s asked of me I’ve done as well. I don’t understand why I only lost a pound this week. I feel very cheated,’
Rick said that Michelle had done brilliantly and that, even with the 8lb gain she had still lost 8lb in total. He does have a point, Miriam is roughly the same size as Michelle and has lost a total of 8lbs. Rick said,
‘She’s like a little trooper. She’s a dynamo. She’s the one sweating. She’s been up and down ski slopes. You name it, she does it!’
Voting
The voting began with Carol and Katey’s decision. Carol said that they felt one of the pair they were voting out was more dedicated than the other. She said that the team they wanted to stay were ‘legendary’, ‘stoic’ and ‘inspirational’. They voted to send Rick and Michelle home.
The Pink ladies were up next and they felt the couple they were voting to eliminate would be able to continue losing the weight at home. They said they were both really lovely people and that it was a hard decision to make. They voted to eliminate Rick and Michelle.
Kate Garraway told the Blues that they had two votes now. One more and they would be eliminated.
Dave and Jamie voted next. Dave said,
‘Jamie and I know how both couples are feeling there because we’ve been there last week. The only way I could make this decision was that we had a slightly closer friendship to one of the pairs than the other and, that’s the only reason we made this choice,’
They voted to send Sadie and Jennifer home. Rick and Michelle had saved them last week so Dave said they were ‘repaying the debt’ they had to them.
Then it was the Brown’s turn to vote. Mark said that the reason for their choice was because they hadn’t spent much time with the couple they were eliminating. They hadn’t built up a connection with them but it was still a very hard decision. They voted for Rick and Michelle to go home.
Eliminated
So, the Blues were leaving. Kate Garraway asked them how they thought their time in the house had affected them and if they would take anything positive away with them. Michelle said,
‘Definitely. We will carry on. It’s just unfortunate that I did have the first week I was ill and the second week compensated that but, you know, that’s the way it goes,’
She went on to say,
‘I’d just like to wish everybody the best of luck. You’ve proved this week you can lose the weight so keep it up,’
Saved to stay another week, Jennifer said,
‘I’m relieved and honoured that they’re going to give me a chance to prove myself because I did try really hard to lose weight and I was devastated at just 1lb,’
Miriam told her that they were devastated for her because they had seen her commitment.
So, that’s one couple from Richard’s team gone and one couple from Angie’s team.
Lighter Mood
The mood after the elimination was very definitely lighter than it has been up to now. The banter and jokes were flying around the room, not to mention the Biggest Loser contestants revealing what dirty minds they have when Mark made what he meant as an innocent comment. The rest of the contestants took it completely the wrong way with Michaela being the ring leader!
As dinner preparations continued the conversation turned to the budding romance between Mark and Miriam. Eunice said,
‘It’s getting embarrassing isn’t it frankly?’
Love is in the Air
Michaela asked Eunice if she would need to buy a hat and Eunice said,
‘It’s a little early Michaela. Just a little early after two weeks!’ She went on,
‘There’s definitely something going on with Mark and Miriam. We were all playing cards round the table and all of a sudden she disappeared. Everybody thought she had gone to the toilet. 20 minutes later it was like, oh she’s not coming back then. And the only two people missing were Mark and Miriam!’
Miriam, very giggly and coy, said,
‘I am spending quite a lot of time in Mark’s room at the moment. It is quite a nice comfortable room and Mark and I get on quite well,’ she giggled,
‘Eunice is just completely rumour spreading and she’s trying to stir up trouble,’ she carried on grinning from ear to ear.
Yeah right Miriam!
Kevin said,
‘The Saga of Miriam and Mark – I think they would make a nice couple to be honest with you. OK so, Mark lives in Hull and Miriam’s been invited to Hull, I’ve just found out. Interesting. I’m sure I’ll get my invite, it’s just a bit late in the post. I’ll wait patiently!’
It was really nice to feel the lighter mood in the Biggest Loser house after all the blood, sweat and tears over the last two weeks. But, it wasn’t going to last.
All Too Much
Katey decided it was all too much for her and she wanted to go home.
‘I’ve been thinking about it the last few days and the decision I came to is to go home,’ she said.
Her knee was hurting and she didn’t want to continue exercising on it. That, coupled with the pressure she was feeling in the house to lose the most weight was just too much.
Carol said she wasn’t going to try to persuade her to stay but she did go through some scenarios with her if she went home. Carol said if there was anyone who could talk her into staying it would be Jamie. After talking to Jamie, Katey decided to sleep on it. Jamie said,
‘And I say you should sleep on it for at least another seven days!’
Jennifer said, when she found out that Katey was thinking of leaving, that she thought it was a joke and didn’t think Katey was serious.
When the teams went to tell their trainers their results, Katey told Richard she was going home. Richard tried to talk her out of it and gave her a pep talk. He found out that she thought she would be up for elimination and going home so she had psyched herself up for leaving. She said she still didn’t feel that it was real and that she wasn’t below the Yellow Line. Richard said,
‘Tell me to my face, right now, do you still want to go home knowing what I can do with you guys?’
She shook her head and said no.
Richard said,
‘No one likes a quitter. This is your chance to come out of this slimmer, happier and thinner,’
He’s obviously a charmer and his magic worked on Katey as she decided to stay! Carol said she owed him ‘big time’.
No Luck for Jamie!
He’s dislocated his shoulder, been injured during the last challenge and is now having chest pains and real difficulties breathing. He ended up having to see the medic who gave him a saline nebuliser. Looks like he has got a bad chest infection. If he has, he won’t be able to train for a while which will make losing weight more difficult for him.
Competitive Streak
Richard was very happy to see all of his team back after the elimination. He said,
‘It’s the waiting that’s the scary part!’
He was very pleased with the Brown team’s loss and the fact that they were the Biggest Losers for the week. He grinned ear to ear when he saw the Pink ladies and told Katey and Carol that they had him worried thinking they wouldn’t make it. Mark told Richard,
‘There are eight of them and they lost 37lbs. There are six of us and we lost 45lbs!’
Richard, obviously over the moon said,
‘It hurts. It hurts being this good!’
Sure and Steady
Angie was very anxious and nervous as she waited for her team. She was happy that Dave and Jamie were still in. She wasn’t over the moon when Jamie told her about his illness and said that Dave really deserved to be there because he had worked so hard. She felt that Dave was having to be the solid part of the team because of Jamie’s problems.
Angie was happy with the Orange team’s losses but, Sadie from the Yellow team was very nervous about telling Angie how little her mum had lost. She said,
‘Angie’s a very competitive woman and she’s not going to be happy with Mum’s minimal weight loss so I’m just going to see what happens and hope she doesn’t kill us!’
Although Angie was shocked when Jennifer told her, she said that Jennifer had worked really hard and that she mustn’t let it get her down. She told her she had the ability to lose a lot.
When the rest of her team told her about Michelle’s gain, she was really surprised but she had thought the big loss the week before was going to catch up with her somewhere. She told her team that it was heads down, steady numbers with really solid training this week.
More issues loom on the horizon for Angie’s team though. At the end of the program last night, Eunice asked to have a word with Angie. Wonder what that’s all about?
