Monday 4th May 2009
Tonight was the first elimination from the Biggest Loser house and either way the Grey or the Red team would be saying goodbye.
The two couples who lose the least percentage of weight fall below the ‘yellow line’ and are up for elimination. The rest of the contestants then have to vote to see who stays and who goes – not a situation any of them relished!
Would the remaining contestants vote off those who they genuinely believed didn’t deserve to be there or would they have a hidden agenda?
On Their Way Out
The couples up for elimination were brought into the room with Kate Garraway and asked how they felt and what had been going through their minds.
Raz said she wished she had pushed herself a little more and that Lisa Marie needed to stay because she wasn’t ready to go home yet.
Lisa felt that if she had lost 6lbs at home she’d have been chuffed but, because of the environment it didn’t seem like very much at all. She said this was her last chance to do something about her weight and she didn’t want to go home.
Dave said he should’ve worked harder because of Jamie’s injury and he felt the weight would’ve dropped off Jamie had he been able to train like the others. He said he had let Jamie down by only losing 2lbs but Jamie said his Dad had worked as hard as he could and that was all he could ask for.
The Voting
The other contestants were brought into the room looking very uncomfortable and fidgety. They then had to reveal their votes and the reasons for their decisions.
Kate Garraway explained that if there was a tie the Biggest Losers from this week would have the casting vote. Both Rick and Michelle so obviously didn’t want to be burdened with that. Michelle looked up at the ceiling trying to hold back the tears and Rick said to the room at large,
‘Please don’t let there be a tie – I don’t want to do that!’
The Votes
Eunice and Miriam were up first and they said there was a particular pair they wanted to save because they felt this pair had potential. They felt the other couple had the desire and ability to do it themselves at home. They voted for Raz and Lisa Marie to leave.
Sadie and Jennifer were up next. They said the reason for their vote was that only one of the couple they were voting for seemed to want to lose weight and that they didn’t think this pair would be prepared to go through the physical pain in order to lose the weight. They voted for Raz and Lisa Marie to leave.
Katey and Carol felt one of the couples had tried to change the dynamics of the relationship and were really trying to support each other whereas one of the other couple wanted to go home. They voted for Dave and Jamie to leave.
Maria and Michaela voted for Dave and Jamie to leave as they felt they were strong enough to support each other outside the Biggest Loser house. Michaela obviously found the voting very difficult and barely got through the explanation of their decision!
So, two votes each for the Grey and the Red team!
Kevin and Mark were the next couple to vote. They felt that one pair had a very strong character in it and that they could easily motivate the other when they were back at home. They voted for Dave and Jamie to leave.
Only one more vote to go. It was a close thing but would it end being a tie?
The Final Decision
Rick and Michelle were the last couple to vote. Rick pointed out that the couples up for elimination had two of the youngest and heaviest people in them and that they both needed to be there. But they did feel that one couple were taking it more seriously that the other. They voted to send Raz and Lisa Marie home.
So, the votes had tied! Rick and Michelle were asked to leave the room to make the dreaded decision. Both were so obviously uncomfortable with the job they had to do. Michelle said she didn’t want to do it as she left the room.
Would they stick to their original choice or would they change their minds?
When they returned they gave their decision – Raz and Lisa Marie.
What Next?
Although they were out of the Biggest Loser house and now not eligible to win the Biggest Loser prize, Raz and Lisa Marie were given a gym membership, exercise and meal plans and will be back for the final weigh in to see how much they have lost on their own.
Raz said she felt she had been voted off because ‘It is a game and you’ve got your team members that you’re going to be loyal to,’
Sadie said that the first elimination had really brought it home to her that if you didn’t lose enough weight you’d be up for the chop!
The Terrible Twosome
The terrible twosome, trainers Angie and Richard, are not going to be present at the weigh ins or the eliminations so they have to wait until afterwards before they know whether their team has been successful. Both of them were pacing the floor like lions in a cage waiting to find out who had gone.
Angie was pleased to see the Orange team. She was really chuffed with the Yellows and Sadie’s 11lbs loss. Mildly surprised to see the Blue team but really happy with Michelle’s 1 stone 2lb loss. She thought she had lost the Grey team and, when they finally came through the door breathed a sigh of relief and said ‘Oh, thank God!’ She actually smiled!
Angie told her team that she wants it like this every week – she doesn’t like to lose!
Kevin was very nervous of Richard’s reaction when he found out one of his couples had been eliminated.
Richard was over the moon with the Brown team and Kevin’s 1 stone 3lb loss. He was very happy with the Green team – Katey had told him she would lose 7lbs and had actually lost 9lbs! He was surprised to see the Pink team and, when the Red team didn’t materialise he said he felt himself go physically grey!
Richard told his team that he definitely didn’t want to go through this again and they had to step it up this week.
What will the week have in store for the remaining Biggest Loser contestants?
