The Biggest Loser contestants had their weekly Temptation Challenge yesterday and it caused a few tempers to flare! Sadie faced a personal challenge and love was in the air again.

Temptation

Up to this point, apart from a letter from home, the contestants have not had any contact with their loved ones for four weeks. The Temptation Challenge left the contestants with a very hard decision to make.

They walked into the room and on the table was a pile of cupcakes. The Temptation Challenge was that the person who ate the most cupcakes could have a ten minute phone call to their loved ones. The first person to play would eat one, the next would eat two, the next three and so on til all the players had eaten cupcakes. Then it went round again so, if there were four people playing, when it got back to the first person, they would have to eat five, the next would have to eat six and so on.

Sadie decided she would play as did Jamie and Kevin. Jamie was desperate to speak to his girlfriend and mum and Kevin needed to speak to his son. Kevin said later,

‘So it was my turn and people know how important it was for me to talk to Jonathan. I started staring at the cakes trying to work out how many calories, how long it would take me to work off,’

Carol said that Jonathan needed his dad and Mark told her she wasn’t helping. She told Mark that she knew how much Kevin wanted Jonathan to hear his voice but that she also knew it was better in the long run that he didn’t give in to the temptation. Dave told her to shut up so that Kevin could think for himself. The tension round the table was building up.

The first round started with Sadie eating one cake, Jamie next with two cakes and Kevin last with three cakes. Carol said that she didn’t think anyone would eat any more cakes and Dave said that he felt she was trying to put pressure on Jamie and Sadie not to eat anymore so Kevin would win. Dave thought it was emotional blackmail on her part.

He said as much to the rest of the contestants round the table and a few raised voices ensued. Some agreeing with Dave and others backing Carol up. Kevin said,

‘Don’t start arguing over me eating cake will ya?’

Sadie dropped out at the beginning of the second round. Had she just fancied a cake at the beginning and decided to take the challenge so she could just have the one or had she really wanted the phone call home?

It was Jamie up next and had to eat another four cakes to be in with a chance of winning – so he did! Maria said,

‘I was really surprised that Jamie ate them cupcakes because his weight loss hasn’t been that great for his size and we’ve got weigh in tomorrow!’

Kevin would now have to eat five to get his phone call. The look of agony on his face was terrible. He was stuck between a rock and a hard place. If he didn’t eat the cakes, it would help him get slimmer and healthier to be around longer for his son. But, if he did eat the cakes, he could win the chance to talk to his son now – a heartbreaking decision. He decided not to go any further. He told Jamie to make sure it was a good phone call,

‘Just make it count. Propose or something. Do something different,’

The winner’s envelope was then handed to Jamie and he read out what he had won.

Congratulations. You have won a ten minute phone call home. Now pick two other people to also have a five minute phone call.

The contestants were totally shocked but also really pleased. Jamie told Kevin that he chose him to have one of the calls and he chose Michaela to have the other one. Miriam said,

‘All in all I think this Temptation brought out the best and worst of a few people and was definitely the most emotional so far!’

Tempers Flare

After the Temptation Challenge, all the contestants went down into the kitchen. Carol, Katey, Mark and Dave all took a seat at the kitchen table and it all ‘kicked off’.

The Greens said that Mark had a hidden agenda and had put pressure on Kevin to take the challenge. Mark said that he had told Kevin the decision was his but felt that Carol had put pressure on Kevin with her comments. Dave and Katey got involved and the argument escalated to a climax with Mark telling Carol she was opinionated and Carol getting up and walking away!

Disappointment

Richard was surprised to see that Mark wasn’t at training again. Jamie told him that Mark’s ribs were causing him problems and that he wasn’t able to train. Richard said that if Mark wasn’t there then he must be having trouble because he knew he wouldn’t miss a session unless he had to.

Richard asked about the Temptation Challenge. He said later that he could feel an atmosphere within the group and that a few people were looking a little sheepish. His team told him what the challenge was and he immediately said that he didn’t think a call home was worth the cakes.

Kevin admitted to him that he had eaten three cakes and Jamie owned up to eating six. Richard was so disappointed with them both. He said,

‘I don’t care about a telephone call. I don’t care if it was a million pounds. You don’t eat that much a day before weigh in!’

Kevin told him that he expected nothing less than for Richard to really punish him during his training that day. Richard told them both,

‘You need to understand you might end up going home because of a few cupcakes!’

He said later,

‘It was going to be a tough session anyway but after they told me about the Temptation I was angry. I decided to make it even tougher,’

Richard’s Trainer Challenge was to make them do a squat on a bosu and hold it for as long as they could with a mountain bike as the prize up for grabs. They did it in pairs and then the contestants who won their heat were in the final. That was Maria, Carol and Jamie. Jamie gave out in the final, leaving Carol and Maria. They were both really going for it and their legs were wobbling with effort but, in the end, Carol’s legs couldn’t stand the pace and she gave up leaving Maria to be the victor!

I Want To Ride My Bicycle

Angie’s team had their training session next. Well, the three people that Angie has left in her team anyway! She got them to run up and down the stairs outside the house until she said stop. They all started together but Dave soon managed to get himself way out in front of Miriam and Sadie. Angie was disgusted with them! Dave is much older than them and so they should at least have been able to keep up!

Angie’s Challenge was a mountain bike race with a mountain bike up for grabs for the winner. Unfortunately, Sadie wasn’t able to take part as she can’t ride a bike. Angie told her that her new challenge was to learn to ride a bike by this time next week. That left Dave and Miriam to fight it out between themselves. Miriam got off to a cracking start but Dave managed to catch her when her foot slipped off the pedals and she lost a bit of momentum. When it came to the turn, Dave didn’t judge it terribly well so Miriam managed to catch up again. They were neck and neck as they came up the driveway back to the house and it looked like it was going to be a tie. Miriam struggled a little on the incline on the drive and Dave managed to ease ahead of Miriam and to the finish line just before her.

Miriam said she was getting more than a little fed up with coming second! She said maybe she was missing her competitive streak. She came second in the first three challenges in week one, two and three and had now come second in this challenge!

Riding Lesson

Angie, Dave and Miriam decided to give Sadie her first cycle lesson after the Challenge. So they got her onto the bike and were running up and down the drive way with Dave on one side, Angie on the other, holding Sadie up until she got pedalling. Miriam was running alongside for moral support. At one point, Sadie was being held up by Dave and Angie and was pedalling but not getting anywhere. She couldn’t work out what was wrong. That was until Dave pointed out that she had the brakes on!!! They were all nearly wetting themselves with laughter – even Angie!

They ran up and down the driveway with Sadie gaining more and more confidence each time. She was doing really well, falling off a few times, until they let go and she was heading towards a tree. Luckily, she managed to stop herself before disaster struck! Dave said that he was getting more of a work out than he did in the mornings!

Keep up the good work Sadie.

Heart to Heart

Kevin and Mark had a chat about Mark’s behaviour following comments that had been made to Kevin recently. He told Mark that he needed to start building some bridges. Mark had told his team mate earlier that he thought other people in the Biggest Loser house were drifting away from him.

Kevin said that it was because he is so direct and that doesn’t sit well with some people. Kevin said the issues needed to be sorted out otherwise they weren’t going to be able to get on with the job in hand and that Mark needs to be a bit more diplomatic.

The chat obviously got through to Mark because when they went downstairs into the kitchen, he immediately apologised to Carol for being so sharp with her earlier and asked her to forgive him.

Mr Lover Lover

Mark decided to go for a walk as he hadn’t been able to train for the last few days and he wanted to get some exercise. He trundled off down the path towards the gates of the house and, all of a sudden there was a flash of orange walking alongside him! Miriam had decided to join him!

They were linked arm in arm and stopped for a little peck on the way back up to the house. Later, Miriam said,

‘You never know what the future might hold. At this moment in time we’re good friends – who knows when we get out of here?’

Mark said,

‘I think we have grown closer and I dread the day that Miriam’ll leave because I’ll feel very isolated because I do spend quite a lot of time talking to her and she sort of keeps me sane in here,’

Ahhhh!

Will their relationship progress? What does the dreaded weigh in have in store for everyone? Will Sadie manage to learn to ride a bike and not be a danger to any trees around her?
