The penalty for losing the Challenge in this episode was possibly the harshest yet and all of the contestants had a make over.

Makeovers

All of the contestants were asked to convene in the Billiard Room. Kevin said they were all really nervous because they didn’t know what it was all about – would one of them be going home? He said,

‘We all got really nervous. We thought that, is one of us going to be going home? Is it gonna be a surprise Elimination? Have we gotta do some kind of challenge?’

Katey said later,

‘We saw three people stood there that we had never seen before and they all looked beautiful and glamorous and I thought, hmmmmmm, what’s going on here?’

There were two women and a man stood there - Matthew Soobroy who is head of Charles Worthington in London, Caroline Frazer who is a celebrity and fashion make up artist and Danielle Elms who is a freelance fashion stylist. Matthew told them they were all going to have makeovers. He said,

‘We know you’ve obviously been here working away, losing all this weight but this final transformation part is where we come in and we actually make you over,’

All of the contestants laughed their heads off and looked really pleased. Matthew went on to say that they would be doing their hair, make up and clothing and making them all look their best. He said once they had all been made over, they would be coming back to the Billiard Room for a drinks party so they could celebrate their new looks.

Carol said what a birthday present it was! She said later,

‘I don’t think anything could have been nicer. The thought of us all getting a makeover. We’ve all lost a lot of weight but we’ve still got this sort of fat person mentality in our head. You know we’re still envisaging ourselves as being very overweight,’

Transformation

Carol and Katey went off with Matthew to have their hair done first. Michaela and Maria went off with Caroline for make up first, leaving Kevin, Lisa, Sadie and Jamie with fashion stylist, Danielle. Lisa said later,

‘The stylists saw my natural beauty, obviously, and they wanted to make me into a kind of Dita Von Teese kind of look!’

Katey said,

‘Matthew chopped me hair off and I’ve been trying to grow it for a while. But I thought, this is your one chance to get a really, really good makeover going on here with your hair so, just let him do whatever he wants to do with it!’

Carol has had her hair long for the best part of twenty years and has only ever been to the hairdressers once in her whole life! Katey said that, as she is now 46, it is time to start looking after herself and glamming it up a bit! Matthew chopped off her pigtail and gave it to her! Kevin said that Caroline started plucking away at his eyebrows and it really hurt!

When Matthew got his hands on Michaela, he was trying to persuade her to say goodbye to the ‘Essex Blonde’! Sadie said later,

‘Michaela was sat waiting to have something done to her hair and it looked really black! But she started freaking out so that was funny!’

Their New Looks

The contestants have come a long way since they joined the Biggest Loser house and the makeovers were just what they needed to bring their looks in line with all the hard work they have put in shedding the pounds.

Carol was the first to show off her new look. She said that she normally avoids mirrors but now she likes what she sees. She has had her long hair chopped off and updated and, although she only normally wears makeup for special occasions, the make up artist had showed her what to do to make the most of her best features.

Jamie was up next and he said that he is happy that he is now fitting in xl clothes instead of 5xl or 6xl! He said he feels so much better and he is really happy with how Matthew had done his hair. He said that all he needed to do now was lose another couple of stone and he would be at his perfect weight.

Katey was next to show off her new look. Matthew had chopped off and updated her hair to frame her face and she said she felt absolutely fantastic. She said the outfit was something that she would never have picked out but, she said that was probably a good thing because the Biggest Loser was all about making changes.

Kevin was next and the stylist had gone casual with his clothes. He looked very at ease with his new look as he came down the stairs. He said he was feeling pretty cool and quite happy with his ‘whole exterior image’!

Lisa’s new look was the next one to be revealed. She said she was having trouble walking in the high heels, but she’ll get used to that! She said she did feel really good – like a pretty girl!

Maria simply glided down the stairs in a stunning turquoise green dress and looked very elegant! She said that a few weeks ago, she wouldn’t have even attempted to put the dress on that the stylist had chosen for her. She said it was quite a big change.

Blonde bombshell Michaela was up next and was no longer blonde! She looked very sophisticated with her new dark locks. She said she felt totally different after the drastic changes that she has undergone in the house – not just with her weight but, also with the makeover! But her trademark grin was still there!

Sadie’s look had definitely been funked up! As she came down the stairs, a hint of the fun-loving, exuberant girl beneath the surface was there for all to see! She said it was the best she had looked for a long time. She said she doesn’t normally put so much effort into her look and is normally a bit more scruffy – a bit more tomboyish!

New Looks Revealed

Katey said that during the day they had all seen bits of each other’s new looks but not the finished, completed new looks so she couldn’t wait to meet up with the other contestants to see what had been done to them. Kevin said,

‘I’m in the room waiting and all of a sudden the door opens and in walks this bombshell brunette – Michaela. And I just didn’t expect it! Didn’t expect her to be that colour hair. She looked fantastic! It really did suit her,’

Kevin said that when Sadie came into the room, he thought she had got the coolest hairstyle, ever! And Michaela was telling her that she had to try to keep the style up because it looked really good on her. Everyone was shocked to see how elegant Maria looked when she walked in. Michaela said she looked absolutely amazing and the dress was something that she would not normally wear.

Katey came in next followed by Jamie. He said,

‘Sexy ladies! And man!’ pointing at Kevin.

Katey said to Jamie that they ought to light the candles on the birthday cake that was waiting in the room for Carol. He said that it was a good idea even if she couldn’t eat the cake!

Carol was the last to come in. She said,

‘As I walked into the room I could see all these balloons everywhere and there was a birthday cake and champagne and lovely low fat food and, of course, all my bestest friends that have been with me through all these weeks. And they all looked absolutely fantastic. I thought, crikey, what a birthday!’

Katey said later,

‘I was absolutely gobsmacked, it just did not look like my mum at all! She looks so much younger now!’

Michaela said that it was a shame Carol’s husband couldn’t see her like that because she looked so amazing. Carol said that she hadn’t worn a dress for about twenty years and Michaela told her she was going to have to keep her hair like that and start wearing more dresses so Gerry (Carol’s husband) could get the benefit of the new Carol.

They were all mingling and drinking the champagne, having a good time, when there was a knock at the door. Sadie said they all thought it would be Angie and Richard coming to join them and to tell them off for drinking and stuff! Carol went to the door to open it only to see her husband stood there! Get the tissues at the ready!!!

Carol was absolutely speechless when she saw him. She had a huge grin on her face and just walked up to him for a hug. He looked so proud of the new look his wife had got. It was a really, really touching moment!

Gerry said,

‘I was shocked because I didn’t recognise her. She looked wonderful!’

Come on girls, no tears, you’ll ruin your make up! Carol said she looked round the room and saw that everyone was delighted for her and thought it was a lovely treat for her birthday.

Then, there was another knock at the door!

Knock, Knock, Knock!

Carol said that this time they really did think it was the trainers. Michaela went to the door and there was her partner, Mick! She said she couldn’t work out why he wasn’t coming forward to cuddle her! But it was because he didn’t recognise her with her new brunette locks! He loved her new look!

Then Katey’s boyfriend, Andy arrived and he looked like he was in shock when he saw her – and very emotional! She ran towards him to give him a really big hug and nearly knocked the poor lad over!

Kevin’s wife, Sue arrived next and Kevin said that he was really, really nervous of opening the door. He was worried whether he had done enough to make a difference to himself. He said he opened the door and, at first she looked right through him as if he wasn’t the right person! The she realised it was Kevin! Sue said later that Kevin just looked so healthy and gorgeous!

Then Jamie got a visitor. Clare, his girlfriend was on the other side of the door. He walked up to her, hugged her and lifted her off her feet!

Sadie said she wasn’t too sure who would be coming through the door for her as she hadn’t got a partner. In fact, Lisa said,

‘When everyone’s partners were coming in, I thought, oh I haven’t got a partner! I said to Sadie, what are we gonna do, we haven’t got partners? She went, oh it might be one of my friends. I was like, yeah but I haven’t got any friends either!’

The next person through the door was Sadie’s friend, Joanne. Sadie said it was a big surprise when she opened the door and saw Joanne standing there! She said that she pretty much did the girlie scream and ran up to give her a hug and straight away got in the girlie gossip mode! Joanne said that Sadie looked incredible. She had never seen her so ‘done up before’!

Lisa’s visitor was next. A distinguished, grey haired man knocked at the door and waited for Lisa to answer it on the other side. It was her dad, Gary! She said her palms were so sweaty that she couldn’t even open the door! She was really pleased to see him and the tears started flowing! She said she is a real Daddy’s Girl!

Maria was the only person not have had a visitor when there was a knock at the door and her husband, Tony, was on the other side of it. He was really taken aback at how good his wife looked in her lovely dress. He told her she looked fantastic and he couldn’t believe the transformation!

Pre-Challenge Training – The Blues

It was the first time the trainers had seen their transformed teams and also their last chance to get some training in before the Challenge.

When Richard saw his Blue team, he was surprised with Michaela’s hair. He told them they all looked great. He said,

‘Check you guys out man, all made up!’

Then he asked Michaela what was going on with the hair. She said she just thought she’d have a change – a drastic change! Richard told her it was striking and that she looked about 10 years younger! He went through all of the team, commenting on their new looks and complimented them all but, pretended to miss Jamie out! He said later that looking good means feeling good!

He went on to talk to them about their session that day. He said that being in a gym didn’t mean that all they could do was weights, resistance training and cardio machines. He said they were there to do a dance class, much to the team’s pleasure! Well, except for Jamie anyway! Richard said that dancing is good for burning calories, for fitness and for keeping lean. He told them they were going to be doing a hip hop dance session.

He took off his jogging top and stripped down to a white vest top. Jamie told Michaela to stop drooling! She said that she had been really looking forward to a dance session with Richard, that was until he told them it was going to be hip hop! Katey did really well, she did hip hop dancing when she was 5 or 6 and hadn’t lost the moves!

Watching Richard bust some moves was great – purely from a workout hints and tips point of view you understand??!!

Pre-Challenge Training – The Blacks

Angie met her team outside in the grounds of the Biggest Loser house and immediately told Kevin that she was taking him out of this training session. She told him that his back had gone through hell and that it needed resting for a little bit longer. The training session she had planned was about speed and agility with lots of dodging and weaving and she told him his back would hate him for it. She sent him off to the gym instead.

She was left with ‘Angie’s Angels’ again and she asked what was going on with the hairdos. She said she had three different girls in front of her! She told Sadie that she looked a bit funky and then told Carol to get her hat off so she could see her hair. Angie told them all they looked great.

Angie said the drill she had planned for them is one that she uses when she trains professional football players and it involved speed and agility. She wanted to see how well the girls could move. Angie had laid out a circuit for the girls with lots of parts to it including sprinting, shuffling and slalom.

They had to do the course individually, one at a time and the whole time they were doing it, Angie was alongside them, encouraging them and making sure they got the techniques right.

Maria said that she enjoyed the session even though it was different from what they have done on the past. She said it really showed her how much she had improved in the time she had been in the Biggest Loser house. Sadie was a little worried that she might slip on the mud while she was doing it but she said that she would just have to get straight back up again. Carol’s determination held her in good stead for the session and she did really well. Angie said later,

‘My Black team, my three girls, watching them go through the kind of drills I put professional footballers through, they could never have done that even a week ago!

The Challenge

Kevin has been having a few back problems over the last few days so it was possible that he wouldn’t be able to do the Challenge this time. All of the contestants have to be declared fit by the Biggest Loser doctor, Dr Ian Campbell, so they can do the Challenge so Kevin went to see him. Maria said that it would be quite a blow if Kevin wasn’t able to do the Challenge because he is the only man in the team. The doctor told Kevin that he didn’t think his back should exclude him from the Challenge but that he needed to exercise some caution.

So, all of the contestants got on the coach ready to go to the Challenge venue and the speculation of what would be in store for them this time began. Carol said that each time they watch out for every sign they pass to give them a clue as to where they might be going. Michaela thought it would be something to do with the army and Kevin said that it might be test flying UFO’s!

They got to the venue and Lisa saw a massive hill. She said she guaranteed them they would be pulling something up that hill! Kevin said they were going to be moving something around a test track. Michaela had her head buried into the back of the seat in front of her with Maria patting her on the back telling her not to worry, she’d be alright!

Carol said the first thing she saw was two cars and a great big truck and she knew they were going to be pulling or pushing them! She was worried whether her team could pull a big truck like that with just the four of them!

Kate Garraway introduced the Challenge as Push Me Pull Me. She told them it was a three part challenge involving pushing cars and pulling a 7.5 tonne truck! She told them in the first part, they had to take four tyres, put them in the back of the first car and then push the car for 100 metres. Once they were across the first line, they then had to take the tyres out of the back of the first car and put them in the back of the people carrier that was next in line. Then they had to push the people carrier for 100 metres. Once they were across the second line, they had to take the tyres out of the people carrier and carry them to the 7.5 tonne truck. The final part of the challenge was to pull the 7.5 tonne truck for 50 metres. Phew!

The team to get all of the truck over the finish line first would be the winner. One of the team must be inside the car and the people carrier to steer it and make sure they stayed on course. The losing team would have to say goodbye to a member of their team on Friday as one of them would be automatically Eliminated. The person to be Eliminated would be the person with the lowest percentage weight loss on the scales on Friday. Kevin said,

‘Admittedly my back hasn’t been up to it but when I heard what was at stake, it was so important. I had to be with the girls there on that one,’

The Black team sorted out all of the details before they started the challenge – they knew exactly who was going to be doing what and where they would be. With the Blue team, Jamie took charge as they discussed their game plan. Lisa said,

‘Jamie decided he was going to take charge and step into Mark’s role. And he didn’t do that bad you know,’

Push Me Pull Me Challenge

Kate Garraway had the chequered flag and started the teams going. The Blacks got off to a cracking start with Kevin getting his tyre to the back of the car first and the rest of the team following hot on his heels. The Blue team were not very far behind and it was really important to both teams to win this challenge.

Kevin jumped into the front seat to steer for the Blacks and Katie steered for the Blues. The Blues were first off the blocks pushing the car and the race was incredibly close at this point. Carol said,

‘It wasn’t difficult pushing the car, it was just keeping the speed up with the running that was more difficult. It was basically running away with you as you were running with it!’

Michaela said that she thought pushing the car would be easy because it was only a little one, but it wasn’t as easy as she thought and the Blacks managed to get over the line with the car first.

For the next stage with the people carrier, Maria drove for the Blacks and Michaela drove for the Blues. Lisa was the last person to put her tyre in for the Blues and there wasn’t very much space left so the boot wouldn’t shut properly. They had to have a quick reshuffle, costing them valuable time. Kevin said later,

‘I thought this is our chance – this is where we can get ahead!’ When he realised the Blues were having trouble.

With the Black team, whoever was driving was shouting encouragement to the rest of the team – showing off their lovely team working skills. Maria was driving the people carrier and shouting backwards to the rest of the Blacks and Kevin said that she had finally found her voice and he hoped that she would never lose it!

The Black team were running with their people carrier and Jamie was trying to get his team to do the same but they just couldn’t get their speed up. Carol said,

‘The Black team are just so focussed. All’s we can think of is winning it, get through this, win it and move on. It’s a bit like we saw, we conquered, we went home and had a cup of tea!’

The Blacks got on to the lorry first and Carol said once they had given it that first tug, the momentum was there and it was moving quite freely and then it was just a matter of keeping it going.

Although the Blacks were in the lead, the Blues were not that far behind and the effort in pulling the truck was evident on their faces. They didn’t want to lose this one but had some ground to make up if they were going to be first over the line.

The Blacks got their truck there first and the claxon sounded. The Blacks had won. Kevin couldn’t contain his pleasure and screamed ‘YES’ at the top of his voice! All of the Black team gathered round to congratulate themselves with hugs all round as the Blues carried on dragging the lorry. Sadie said later,

‘Kev was celebrating like he had won the Olympics it is that important to him!’

Jamie was not a happy bunny that his team had lost – he seemed to not know what to do with himself and was wandering around saying ‘s**t’. Michaela said she was quite shocked with his reaction. Lisa told him not to worry about it and that they had tried their best.  She said later,

‘Jamie was just stomping around, throwing his toys out of the pram!’

He said that he wanted to keep himself away from everyone at the end of the challenge because he was worried about what he might say to Lisa. He said later that he thought her mental strength wasn’t what it could or should be. Katey was really upset because it had dawned on her what it could mean on Friday because although she has lost weight every week, she has had low weight loss percentages and that could mean she could be going home. Michaela was telling her that she would go home instead of Katey to try and calm Katey down.

Next time the Blacks get to give Angie the good news and the Blues have to give Richard the bad. The Biggest Loser contestants also have to face the Temptation Challenge where any one of them could win immunity!
